Caught Pike and Small mouth Bass in Boundary Waters

Posted by Monte V on 7th Aug 2013

We love the reel, rod and bag. I will soon order a second one. We had a 42 mile trip through boundary waters last month and had fish to fry most nights!

    Fits in my golf bag

Posted by Jerry Connor on 6th Jul 2013

I love to fish and I love to golf. The packer pole fits perfectly in the side pocket of my golf bag. I've caught so many fish on golf course ponds - loads of fun! And it's a good sturdy pole, not some flimsy kids pole. It's a real serious quality fishing pole. Love it!

    Handy and helpful fishing rod

Posted by Desmond Wong on 20th Jun 2013

The fishing rod is very handy as it is very short, we can just carry it everywhere. My fishing buddy see me using this fishing rod and they asked me where to buy it and I told them I bought it online. And I hope that there will be a Singapore dealer as it will be more convenient to all the people that is intrested in fishing.

    Quality fishing rod.

Posted by Rick C. on 29th May 2013

Received the packer rod( 4 coil ) just in time for trip to Canada. Fished for northern pike, easy to cast and retrieve. Just right size for casting to specific area. Used in windy conditions, and performed flawlessly, only need to adjust, lure and weight.

Review of the Packer with a survival aim in mind

Posted by Dan Mimms on 20th May 2013

I recently purchased an Emmrod packer to try and see how it would work as a survival tool and backpacking fishing rod. At first I honestly wasn't very impressed. You do not cast it like you would a regular rod and until you get the hang it is about as castable as the Popeil Pocket Fisherman... not much! After about ten minutes it started to come together for me. You flick it with more wrist action than arm action. As I got more comfortable with this the distance just kept growing as did my accuracy. I'm now casting a 1/4 oz plug just about as far as I would with a 5 1/2' regular rod with even better accuracy. I mean it ZIPS out there with very little arc in the cast compared to a more normal casting motion. I wish that Emmrod would include a little instruction manual with it so that people that hadn’t already researched it would know to use more wrist and not even try to cast it like it was a longer rod. It also works pretty well as a slingshot caster. You pull the lure back and just let it fly without any casting motion. For fishing in areas with lots of overhead stuff and brush it will be just totally awesome. Disassembled and ready for transport it is an unbreakable little 13" package and assembled it is not quite 2' long. LOL, I haven't got it into the water yet but I have tried the casting and it is better than adequate. I also drafted my Yorkie into the testing and it had no problem controlling her and reeling her in. She bucked and fought it after running out to fetch her ball and I'm convinced that any fish under ten pounds will be in trouble and no problem. The rod itself is made of spring stainless and the handle is cast aluminum with inserts that actually give it a pretty nice grip. As a survival tool it should be nearly perfect. It is tough, dependable, moderately light and casts well. If you are in an area where fishing will only be a sort of backup method of food harvesting it might be too pricy but in a place like where I am fish will be my number one protean source so it is worthwhile. I wanted something that was able to allow me to fish in any sort of jungle pool and this is it. They offer this rod in spinning, casting and fly fishing configurations so you can tailor it to your preferred methods. It is available in ultra light, light, medium, medium heavy, heavy, and holy Guacamole!! saltwater 100lb plus category. I went for medium but for 20 bucks I can add another rod. For this area medium is plenty. If you want to put Musky, pike or big salmon on the list you can move up in rod weight. If you are after Brookies in small creaks the fly rod or ultra light rod would be hard to beat. I will be mostly in medium sized rivers and lakes in the south East Texas region and so I won't be persuading bigger fish for a survival food source. I’ve not fished with it and used it some… This little rod seemed a little pricey to me at first but as I’ve played with it and used it I’ve come to realize that it is NOT just a spincast rod. Most rods that come with spin cast reels are cheap. They are not intended for use by a deadly serious tournament type fisherman rather they are designed and intended for the occasional week end fisherman. Since the packer is supposed to be for a spincast reel I looked at the price with a spincast mentality. When I got to using it I found it to be a LOT more than just another spincast rod. I pay a LOT more than this for some of my high end casting rods and never felt like they were overpriced. They were specially designed rod to fill a specific need and as such were superior to a similar generic sort of rod. The Emmrod is a precision TOOL. I got to messing with it and put a small casting reel on it and man it is SLICK!!! I can see it allowing some rather spectacular casts under docks and such in my future!! I put a top line spincast reel on it that cost almost as much as the rod and I have something very special. I fish a LOT and own over a hundred rods and probably even more reels. I like to collect them. I bought this with the intentions of it going into a sort of emergency bug out bag but alas, I don’t think it is going to make it. It’s a HOOT to use for wade fishing and I also fish a lot of ponds that are over grown. I plan on it living in my truck and getting a lot of use. Until you handle one and get the feel of its somewhat different casting technique you just can’t imagine how efficient it is and how well it casts. I will probably have to add another to the family eventually. It really is a remarkable little tool. I do not have any connection to this company and these are my honest evaluations based on trying it and posting this on a couple of special survival based boards.

    Casting take practice

Posted by Jeremy on 19th May 2013

I love the quality and build of this rod, but the short length is noticeable, especially with light weigh lures. I am very satisfied with the strength of the spring. I fitted it with a Zebco 33 platinum. Overall I am very happy with it. I do recommend this product.

    poor design

Posted by Sandy on 4th May 2013

I brought this rod before I knew how to tie a fishing knot. I really like the yellow colorful handle and compact design. The rod came with an inexpensive shakespeare reel and it broke shortly, so I invested into a more expensive reel. However, the reel seat will not fill other reels properly. The spool release button will not go down fully. Also, reel seat is a little big, so i have to put a plastic insert to fill in the space. Some of reels that i have tried to match the packer rod with are shimano caecan, abu c3, and shimano charter, but it doesn't fit properly. I really like the idea and direction of these rods, but they need redesign the reel seat. Emmrod says: The Packer model is ONLY for use with a closed face casting reel. It is not designed to take any of the above mentioned bait casting reels. Also, it is a fresh water pole not a salt water pole and is designed to be used with fresh water reels.

    Great for backpacking

Posted by Kelly K on 22nd Apr 2013

I recently took this rod backpacking and it was great. It's not the lightest but factor in durability and it's pretty awesome. It casts really well for being so small. Highly recommend.

    Always Ready To Go!

Posted by Lenni Heilig on 7th Apr 2013

I bought myself the Packer about a year and a half ago, and no matter where I am, if I see 'fishable' water, I can try it out! The Packer is so conveniently FUNCTIONAL. I've caught more crappie with my Packer than any other rod I own. Liked it so much, I got my Dad one for his birthday this year and he's already in love with it! Great product!
