nice product
I first learned about this product from a fellow kayaker, and then from Jeff McGovern, who has a ton of YouTube videos on the product. It's actually unfortunate there is not more information out there about this rod. I bought the pack rod with TPE handle, along with a top water special rod, and 6 coil for a baitcaster. I use a Lew's BB1 pro reel. This is a very well made quality item, and the stainless steel rods are a thing of beauty. I think this is a product you could probably hand down to your children. I really don't think the price is out of line for the level of quality you get, and $20 for extra rods is more than reasonable. I use a side cast in a motion similar to throwing a baseball from the side. I've learned to keep the motion in my arm and not twist my back. You don't need to put your whole body into the cast. It would be nice if Emmrod did some instructional videos, as this rod cast differently than traditional rods. I have not done a direct side-by-side comparison to a 6 1/2 foot rod, but I started out with about 60 to 70 foot cast, and worked my way up to about 120 feet or thereabouts. The topwater special cast the furthest. It takes some practice, but you can get performance similar to a full length rod/reel combo. So far, the disappointing part about purchasing this product is zero feedback from the company. My last several e-mails have gone unanswered. Jeff McGovern, one of the Emmrod dealers, got back to me about three days after my initial e-mail. He was at least willing to talk over the phone. I wouldn't expect too much on the way of support for using the product.

Perfect for minimalist lifestyle
Fits right in the door cup holder of my truck. Fun to cast and bring in fish. Caught a fish on my second cast! I can't say that was all the pole must have been a good spot. I do love this pole though and it is so tough I don't have to baby it like a lot of my other camping gear.

From Gimmick to Grin!!
After seeing this rod about 4 years ago and thinking it was a gimmick I finally pulled the trigger and bought one! When I got it the rod came with a Shakespeare Ugly Cast reel. I took it out and people were stunned and complimented my setup the whole night....I thought I was going to get robbed haha!. Anyways, I didn't care for that reel (even though it casted well) I felt like the rod was going to fly off my wrist...that is until I put a baitcaster on it. An Abu Garcia Revo SX to be precise. So I threw the new reel on it and decided to give it a castability test with a 1/4 oz. Rattle-trap lure. To my surprise, and I do mean flat out surprise, my best cast was 41 yards!! With most of my regular cast landing between 30-35 yards consistently! That is more than enough for what I need. The stainless rod is also very study (I got the 6 coil rod) and it seems as I'd it will do its part assuming I do mine! I love this rod and people that purchase it won't go wrong...andto think when I first seen this rod and the salesman 4 years ago to think it was a fluke! I only wish I would have purchased one sooner! I will have more for sure!

Kayak Positive for sure
Have tried both models now and find them to be great products. I am still working to get a bit more distance out of each cast, but really doesn't effect the catching abilities since most of my fish come from 10 to 40 feet away. Love the all items held up to fish up to 15 lbs (Redfish) and 3lb bass.

Catching Northern's in the Boundary Waters
Took my first multiple day canoe trip into the Boundary Waters this week. This pole worked like a champ both in the boat and on the shore. I've been converted and will not be returning to my old rod and reel. Great job Emmrod for making such a sturdy, fun product! It has changed the way I fish for the better.

Great Product
I'm an avid outdoorsman and hang out in the woods of northern Idaho and Montana. A portable rod that is super durable? Where has this rod been all my life. I'm still getting use to the rod. It casts a little differently and it also retrieves a little differently. I got into some larger brown trout over in Montana and I lost the first one due to lack of experience. These rods are a little stiffer and harder to gauge on how to keep the slack out of the line. After the second and third 18+ brown, I realized it's just best to horse them in rather than play them. After figuring that out, I haven't lost another one due to operator error. Great product though. Invented and made in Idaho, now that's a win-win. Great job.

Excellent high-mountain lake fishing setup
I bought this rod for fishing excursions up to the back-country lakes of central Idaho. The guys from work looked at me like I was insane when I pulled this rod out of the case, but it amazes me how "natural" this setup feels, and it will literally last a lifetime. Well done Emmrod!
